Director of Marketing & Communications

NC MedAssist is North Carolina’s only nonprofit, statewide free pharmacy. Our programs assist our neighbors with medication access needs by providing prescription and over-the-counter medication at no cost. Our mission is to dispense opportunities through improved health.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for planning, development and implementation of all of NC MedAssist’s marketing strategies, communications, and public relations activities.

 

Key responsibilities include:

MarCom Strategy, Brand Management, and Execution:

  • Ensure that brand identity, messaging, and marketing and communications strategy are infused in all organizational efforts (programming, development, community outreach)
  • In partnership with the CEO and Chief Development Officer, lead the development of the MarCom plan to support the organization’s goals
  • Responsible for the achievement of goals and objectives of the Marketing and Communications plan through monitoring metrics and tracking analytics to show success
  • Work closely with development and program team members to conceptualize and implement communications strategies around fundraising & stewardship events, media campaigns, and all NC MedAssist programs

Content Strategy & Management:

  • Oversee the development, design, distribution, and maintenance of high-quality print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to annual reports, brochures, presentations, newsletters, and reports
  • Lead the strategy and generation of engaging digital content for NC MedAssist’s website, social media, and email channels that leads to measurable action
  • Maintain digital media archives including photos and videos
  • Create and manage a communications calendar for all external communications, including creating annual appeal letters for fall and spring campaigns.

Press and Public Relations:

  • Guide the strategy on press outreach, including messaging in press releases, creation of press kits and materials, interview preparation, and responses to media requests.
  • Identify trends, monitor current events and influencers to anticipate opportunities for NC MedAssist to engage in and/or lead the conversation
  • Develop, write, and edit marketing and communications materials, including press releases, educational documents, and social media content
  • Identify target audiences and create strategies to effectively engage them

Development and Outreach:

  • Assists members of the development staff with fundraising appeals, events and external facing meetings to ensure branding guidelines are followed
  • Represent NC MedAssist at public events as needed (ability to travel across NC is required)
  • Assist with Mobile Free Pharmacy events across North Carolina throughout the year. (some weekend events)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field – advanced degree or certifications preferred
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience, including leading the communications, marketing, social media, and public relations – nonprofit experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills
  • Must possess exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills and be able to compose engaging and accurate content
  • Working knowledge of MS Office; photo/video editing, web design and content production is preferred
  • Ability to work occasional weekends, evenings, and/or early morning work hours and travel across NC
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge, and experience in the successful development and execution of marketing campaigns, communications, and public relations activities
  • Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills
  • Experience developing and implementing successful social marketing strategies
  • Self-motivated and goal driven. Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.

 

COMPENSATION

Salary range is between $70K-$75K annually based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and skills .

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (with or without reasonable accommodations)

  • Availability to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings
  • Comfortable with changes in the environment with the ability to work in a stationary office environment for extended periods of time
  • Ability to push, pull, and lift 15lb-20lbs
  • Must hold a valid driver's license and be comfortable with occasionally operating company vehicle
