Job Description
BBB is seeking a junior urban designer with 2+ years of experience to join our urban design studio in New York. For this position, we are seeking candidates with specific subject-area expertise in urban design and/or campus planning, including architectural design and building typologies; massing, zoning, and regulatory analysis; public realm and urban mobility systems, including streetscapes, transit, pedestrian, and bike networks; open space and landscape; and the integration of technology in urban design, public realm activation, and visualization.
The ideal candidate will have a background in architecture or landscape architecture, in addition to specialized experience in planning and urban design, combining technical understanding with drawing and design skills to explore and represent urban design concepts that integrate urban form, streetscape, open space, and circulation for large scale urban areas and campuses.
Urban design and planning are central to BBB's mission and form a significant part of our multi-disciplinary practice. We work with clients and communities across the US and internationally to envision the future of neighborhoods, campuses, and cities and to imagine and plan new developments. Our projects range from urban master plans, downtown vision plans, and waterfront revitalization to campus master plans and involve a mix of public, private, and institutional clients. Required Skills, Experience, and Knowledge: •Professional degree in Architecture or Landscape Architecture, with a specialized degree or relevant experience in Urban Design. Candidates with degrees in Urban Planning will be considered if work samples demonstrate design and drawing experience at a conceptual and schematic level.
•2+ years of professional experience, including experience in urban design or campus planning projects.
•Demonstrated proficiency in working at the urban and multi-building scale, including work samples of analytical mapping, conceptual diagrams, design development drawings, and rendered perspectival views of design proposals.
•Demonstrated ability to work precisely and efficiently, even at the conceptual level
•High-quality visualization skills in 2D and 3D
•Advanced proficiency with Adobe CS, Rhino, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and Grasshopper (or other comparable parametric design software). Proficiency is required. Revit is preferred but not required.
•A high degree of self-motivation, flexibility, and resourcefulness
•Strong communication, collaboration, and team working skills
•Strong organizational and file management skills
Beyer Blinder Belle Architects and Planners believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is $63,000 to $72,000. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range or be above or below it based on factors including but not limited to experience, education, professional achievement, and business needs.
In addition to base salary, employees will participate in an annual performance review process with the possibility of receiving a performance-based bonus and base salary increase each year.
