Job Responsibilities/Duties
Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) is the tank farm operating contractor at the Hanford Site located in Richland, WA. The WRPS mission is to safely store, retrieve, and treat 56 million gallons of legacy radioactive and hazardous waste. The contractor is also preparing to support the Waste Treatment Plant Operations by procuring long lead equipment spares for the future as requested by the Department of Energy.
The Direct Feed LAW (DFLAW) Engineering Acquisitions group was formed within the WRPS Engineering organization in order to support this effort. The group will be responsible for near term and future long lead high dollar equipment spares to ensure the Tank Farm and WTP continue to Operate.
This position will have the following overall responsibilities.
This position will support the spare melter fabrication efforts that are currently on going and projected in future. It is estimated that there will be approximately 17 melter fabrications that will require a technical competency to oversee a multiyear challenging equipment procurement process. The position will work under the leadership of the project engineer assigned to the Melter. The individual will be expected to understand basic engineering terminology and read drawings. The individual will have limited decision making ability until fully qualified as a project engineer and design authority for a melter.
Specific engineering duties will include supporting the following as technical engineer:
* Support development of studies or technical evaluations of alternatives for equipment acquisitions
* Support development of specifications to support build to print or design-build equipment
* Support development of inspection criteria for large fabrications
* Develop statements of work and support procurement processes to obtain fabricators
* Review submittals from fabricators
* Interface as necessary with the design engineering organization to update any design media
* Interface with WTP or Tank Farm organizations to support replacement of equipment as necessary
* Interface with Engineering discipline leads to ensure code compliance
* Draft responses to Requests for information and Non-Conformances from fabricators
* Support fabricators in walkdowns and testing
* Prepare and conduct presentations as needed
Required Qualifications
Grade 14:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline
Grade 15:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline; and
One (1) years of related experience
Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.
Grade 16:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline; and
Two (2) years of related experience
Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is significantly larger, and the expected level of performance is greatly increased.
Desired Qualifications
Willingness to learn the fabrication processes
Ability to read basic drawings
Direct experience with the use of Microsoft Office products, Solids works a plus
Presentation and verbal communication skills

Compensation & Benefits
In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, WRPS takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made within the targeted hiring range posted. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
Hiring Range Minimum: $71,200
Hiring Range Maximum: $108,513
