About the Position: We are seeking an engineer experienced in the development of new packaging concepts in an industrial manufacturing environment. Primary responsibilities with be to support multiple manufacturing locations in the Land Vehicle Americas Segment to execute packaging projects from concept through commercialization for products currently in production as well as for future products that are currently in development. Secondary responsibilities will focus on supporting our awning manufacturing operation to improve manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixtures to support daily production schedules while enhancing productivity and product quality.
The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of common materials used to package finished products produced in an industrial manufacturing environment. Experience with sustainable packaging solutions is a plus. Additionally, the candidate will possess a secondary interest in basic manufacturing engineering concepts so that support can provided to our awning manufacturing area as needed. In this position the candidate will also apply excellent organizational, project management, technical problem solving and communication (written and verbal) skills, with the ability to work in teams in multiple locations. This position reports to Director, Operations Footprint Planning and is located in Elkhart, Indiana.
Main responsibilities: Packaging Engineering Responsibilities: - Leads complex projects or assignments within large projects with minimal supervision.
- Build, modify, and approve engineering drawings using AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, Solid Works, or similar software applications.
- Lead packaging qualification activities by generating packaging protocols, overseeing test execution, analyzing test data, and authoring qualification reports.
- Provide technical expertise for packaging risk assessments and failure mode/root cause analyses.
- Initiate and coordinate packaging line trials including planning, conducting and post-trial activities.
- Partner with sourcing and production departments to determine costs and feasibility of producing proposed packaging.
- Able to identify areas of cost savings or improvements to new and already launched products.
- Collaborate with multi-functional teams (i.e. Manufacturing, Process Development, Quality, Sourcing, Product Development, etc.) in pre-commercial and commercial activities to produce an optimized packaging solution.
Manufacturing Engineering Responsibilities: - Continuously search for and evaluate cost savings ideas through a variety of means, including lean manufacturing techniques and appropriate capital spending.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing processes and equipment problems as well as new and existing packaging problems.
- Generate and modify manufacturing process and packaging documentation.
- Work with cross functional teams to transfer new products efficiently and effectively into manufacturing.
- Investigates various options and develops layout proposals for new and current processes to optimize manufacturing efficiency.
- Maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, contractors, and vendors.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications, Education & Work Experience - Bachelor's degree in packaging or mechanical engineering
- Minimum 3 years' experience in packaging development with familiarity with an assembly manufacturing environment.

- Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite, SolidWorks, AutoCAD or equivalent
- AS400 and D365 knowledge a plus.
Physical Requirements - Normal manufacturing environment.
- Must be able to lift and move items weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time in a manufacturing environment.
- Domestic and international travel will be necessary (minimum 30%).
