About the job As a Staff Engineer at Twilio Segment Storage Destinations team, you’ll build systems that unlock customer data in new and industry-leading ways. You will collaborate across major product areas of Segment Customer Data Platform (CDP) to lead engineering on highly anticipated features built on top of modern data warehouses. To be successful, you will design, implement, and operate new large scale distributed systems while acting as a multiplier to the greater business unit helping support key strategic engineering initiatives. We iterate quickly on these products and features and learn new things daily all while writing quality code. We work closely with product and design and solve some of the toughest engineering problems to unlock new possibilities for our customers. Responsibilities In this role, you’ll: Design and build the next generation of Storage Destinations Platforms, process billions of events, and power various use cases for Twilio Segment customers. Build high-performance data pipelines using Go and Kafka. Ship features that opt for high availability and throughput with eventual consistency. Support the reliability and security of the Storage Destinations platform. Build and optimize globally available and highly scalable distributed systems. Participate in an on-call rotation to support our business-critical infrastructure. Qualifications Not all applicants will have skills that match a job description exactly. Required: 5+ years of experience writing production-grade code in a modern programming language. Experience in architecting reliable distributed systems, with an emphasis on high-volume data management. Highly effective collaborator who works well with teammates and product partners to deliver completed work on time. Solid grasp of Linux systems and networking concepts. Comfortable asking questions and taking initiative to solve problems in a rapidly growing company, where it is often necessary to draw the owl. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Desired: Experience with containerization and container orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes, working experience in AWS EKS is preferred. Understanding of the competitive ETL space in cloud data warehousing. Location This role will be remote and based in the USA.
