Textiles Designer

Summary :

The primary objective of the Textiles and Surface Designer is to produce commercially creative art which supports the Bedding woven and knit design department. Strong illustrator skills, an ability to create original art and evolve existing art into newly considered iterations are foundational to this position.

This candidate is collaborative and enjoys a creative, face paced design environment. The capacity to give and receive feedback in frequent design meetings is stimulating! Understanding the importance of editing and working through all the possibilities of art and digital design without emotional attachment, this candidate has the potential to create many viable options. This person is detail-oriented, highly organized, efficient, and creative. He or she can prioritize workload effectively and demonstrate an ability to meet challenging deadlines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following :

· Strong, demonstrated understanding of color theory (hue, value, chroma, etc.) and can pass the Farnsworth-Munsell 100 hue test.

· Demonstrated experience creating original print and pattern designs in addition to manipulating purchased art.

· Adobe Creative Suite (i.e., Photoshop, Illustrator) proficiency with a willingness to learn new software as needs arise. Ability to create cohesive and clean files in adherence with file standards and encourage innovation within the process.

· Microsoft Suite proficiency (i.e., TEAMs, Planner, PowerPoint, Excel, Word etc.).

· A well-developed rationale for translating design briefs into compelling artwork.

· Solid organizational skills with the ability to complete multiple tasks and projects within deadlines.

· Knowledge of copyright registration and trademark infringement laws regarding designing original artwork and utilizing purchased artwork for manufacturing.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in a design related field.
  • Related work experience of 3+ years of print and graphic experience in the Fashion or Home Textiles Industry . Knowledge of apparel, wallcovering, or carpet surface design as it relates to fabrication, print repeats and printing techniques.

  • Self-confident; ability to work well both individually and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and selling skills.
  • Ability to foster and develop positive client relationships.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to drive for results.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities. Uses time efficiently, develops realistic action plans.
  • Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
