Organizational Overview:

SBCS (formerly South Bay Community Services) transforms communities to support the well-being and prosperity of children, youth, and families. For more than 50 years, we've worked throughout San Diego to provide safe shelter, transitional housing, intervention prevention programs, mental health support, and many other services that meet the ever-changing needs of our communities.

Program & Volunteer Responsibilities Overview:

Volunteers are the heart of the VITA program and come from various professions and social

positions, such as working professionals, retirees, college and high school students, IRS employees, and individuals who just want to help others in their communities.

We are looking for a 12-week commitment (December - April) to fill various roles. Available shifts include:

1. Monday - Thursday: 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

2. Monday - Thursday: 3 - 7 p.m.


Requirements

Volunteers should demonstrate the following:

• Have the desire to serve others
• Willingness to follow directions
• Communication skills
• Enjoy working as part of a team and interacting with the community.
• Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
• Work collaboratively with team to achieve common goals

Requirements:

Some volunteer opportunities require certain clearances.

Physical Demands:

• Mentally and emotionally: Ability to work under deadlines, various deliverables and dealing with clients in crisis and difficult situations.
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position during shift.
• Moves throughout the building
• Communicating: Expressing or exchanging ideas. Communicating is important for those activities in which volunteers must impart information to clients or to the public, and in those activities in which they must convey detailed or important instructions to other workers accurately, or quickly.
