As TLF’s Apparel Designer I will be responsible for providing the skills needed to deliver innovative designs using premium textiles engineered with exceptional fit, construction, functionality, and quality. This position will work within the Innovation & Design Department collaborating with the design team while also working independently to execute on styles, collections, and capsules. You will be expected to adhere to a rigid T&A/critical path calendar and be responsible for all aspects of conceptualization to commercialization to bring a product to the market. This position will continually research our target demographic, competitive landscape, and industry trends to provide brand-relevant product direction and designs.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Including But Not Limited To The Below):

  • Design with a high level of attention to detail utilizing high quality and innovative designs and patterns, fabrics, trims, appliques, and on-trend styles and colors, supported with CAD’s and 3-D renderings for each style using Adobe Illustrator, Browzwear, CLO3D, Optitiex, or similar software)
  • Design apparel that is unique and upholds the TLF culture and brand
  • Conduct market research and trend analysis to identify emerging style trends, trims and textiles, and technologies to provide design inspiration and present these findings to internal teams, focus groups, and executive leadership
  • Create 2-D and 3-D CADS illustrating collection theme, style strategy and story, product design, features, functionality, benefits, details, trims, colors, and fabric selections, with supporting research and samples
  • Design and develop styles for specific product classifications, categories, and genders from initial concept through pre and post-production to achieve accurate delivery while establishing superior quality, fit, functionality, aesthetic, and construction
  • Provide highly detailed and accurate tech packs with exceptional attention to detail for product specs, fit, fabrication/construction, patterns, aesthetic, and logo placement to our vendors
  • Create one-of-a-kind print designs in photoshop for all printed garments
  • Manage and track all designs, tech packs, samples, wear test and fit session data
  • Work with production and sourcing dept to ensure all products adhere to company target margins and ensure all deadlines are met and adhere to the T&A/critical path calendar
  • Develop styles that meet our high standards and provide TLF “WOW” factor to each and every customer
  • Lead fit sessions proposing alternative methods of construction or components
  • Work with Innovation & Design (I&D) and Marketing Team to ensure the marketability of your styles
  • Monitor and track the status of all development, sampling, pre-production, ad samples, TOPs, and final production

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS:

  • Mandatory Bachelors degree in apparel design, or an equivalent field
  • Mandatory 3+ years’ work experience in men’s and/or women’s apparel design (recent design portfolio submission is required)
  • Mandatory 1+ years’ of recent work experience in men’s and/or women’s athletic / fitness apparel design (1 year of this specific experience must have occurred within the last 2 years, recent design portfolio submission is required)
  • Highly proficient in adobe illustrator, photoshop, and 3-D CAD software for product design (Browzwear, CLO3D, Optitiex, or similar 3D software)
  • Highly proficient in technical design software (i.e. Techpacker) for creating tech packs (or similar technical design software)
  • Experience with knits and seamless design and manufacturing
  • Experience in communicating technical product specifications
  • Experience in cut and sew fabrication and construction process
  • Experience performing fit sessions and troubleshooting to resolve garment or fit issues
  • Ability to research and resolve construction, fit, and/or quality issues
  • Proven ability to consistently deliver creative, compelling designs resulting in on trend marketable and sellable styles
  • Highly organized with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent presentation skills with strong verbal communication abilities (ability to present styles, collections, capsule drops to large focus groups or executive and management teams)
  • Ability to take constructive criticism in a positive manner and apply suggestions
  • Highly proficient in trend research and forecasting (i.e. styles, fabrics, and color)
  • Highly proficient in graphic print design and various application processes
  • Ability to manage a project without guidance
