Description EKG Technician FLSA Employment Status: Non-exempt / Hourly
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of Cardiovascular Services, the EKG Technician plays a pivotal role in the diagnostics and treatment of cardiac and vascular conditions. Utilizing a blend of skill and precision, you will operate electrocardiograph (EKG) machines to capture the intricacies of heart activity, thereby enabling physicians to make accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.
Reporting Structure:
Directly reports to the Director of Telemetry or designated authority.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Education:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Associate's degree in a healthcare-related field from an accredited institution
- Work Experience:
- Minimum of one (1) year EKG work experience
- Education and training with EKG clinical rotation experience are required
Licenses/Certifications:
- Certification in EKG Technology
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI)

Essential Functions:
- Produce accurate EKG recordings for diagnostic use
- Schedule patient appointments and monitor heart rates
- Offer clear explanations of procedures to patients
- Utilize electrodes to obtain diagnostic prints
- Keep EKG equipment in optimal working condition
- Recognize abnormal EKG patterns and escalate as required
- Conduct assessments on patients of varying conditions and age groups
- Maintain effective relationships with department personnel
Other Duties:
May perform other responsibilities and engage in special projects as needed.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking
- Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 40 pounds
- Must have corrected vision and hearing
- Exposure to infectious and contagious diseases may occur
- Must handle emergency and/or crisis situations competently
- Required to wear protective equipment when necessary
- Effective performance in stressful and fast-paced situations
- Must pass all required health and other screenings, including drug tests.
